What is the Pharmacy First Service?
Pharmacy First is an NHS service that allows our trained pharmacists at Commonside Pharmacy to assess, advise, and treat a range of common minor illnesses — without you needing to see a GP first.This service is designed to make healthcare faster and more accessible, while reducing pressure on local GP surgeries.Our pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can provide clinical advice and, where appropriate, supply prescription-only treatments under the NHS.
Conditions We Can Treat
Under the Pharmacy First scheme, we can assess and treat the following common conditions:
- Ear infections (1–17 years)
- Sore throats (5 years and over)
- Sinusitis (12 years and over)
- Impetigo (1 year and over)
- Infected insect bites (1 year and over)
- Shingles (18 years and over)
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (16–64 years)
(Eligibility criteria apply in line with NHS guidelines.)
